Green expected to be ready for Northwestern opener
Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald says running back Treyvon Green is doing well and is expected to be ready for the season opener after a scare at practice last week.
Fitzgerald told reporters Monday at practice in Kenosha, Wis., that Green should be available to play against Syracuse on Sept. 1. That's a big relief considering the scene that unfolded on Friday.
Green took a hit to the chest and stayed down as medical staff tended to him. After about 10 minutes, players and media were cleared from Northwestern's indoor practice facility before Green was taken to the hospital.
Green played in all 13 games and ran for 362 yards as a true freshman last season.
