Graduate transfer QB Adams expects to be late to Oregon camp

Vernon Adams Jr., Oregon's future QB, says he will be a couple of days late to the Ducks' fall camp as he completes his undergraduate degree. 

Adams, who is a graduate transfer from Eastern Washington, explained to Ryan Thorburn of The Register-Guard that he's looking forward to joining the Ducks and competing for the starting job.

“I’m probably going to be a couple days late,” Adams said to Thorburn. “But I expect it to all work out. I’m real excited, just trying to stay focused with this class and getting ready to have fun playing football again.”

Adams mentioned that he expects to complete his final class by Aug. 13. Oregon's camp opens on Aug. 10, hence the issue. Adams cannot officially join the Ducks until his undergraduate requirements are fully completed. 

Adams has been working out by himself and has thrown to some Oregon receivers, a couple of whom happen to be his roommates. Because he is not officially a member of the Ducks, Adams is not allowed to workout with his new teammates on Oregon's campus or participate in the conditioning programs. 

As for learning the playbook by himself, Adams said “It’s tough learning by yourself. I’ve been throwing with my roommates, running and working out on my own.”

Once Adams finishes his last class, he will have 23 days to learn Oregon's offense and compete with Jeff Lockie for Oregon's starting QB job. 

Will he be able to establish himself as Oregon's best option at QB before the season kicks off on Sept. 5?
