Gamecocks' new OL coach has NFL pedigree

In correspondence with Steve Spurrier's resignation, an interim head coach tag was placed upon Shawn Elliott.

Elliott had acted as the Co-Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line coach. As such, the Gamecocks were in need of a replacement at both positions. G.A. Mangus will resume the role as the play-caller of the offense. As for the offensive line coach job, Travelle Wharton was promoted from a quality control coordinator standing.

A native of Greenville, Wharton attended South Carolina from 2000-03. He parlayed success on the collegiate level into a 10-year NFL career. After retiring from the game in 2014, he joined the program's coaching staff under Spurrier.

Not only does Wharton understand the dynamics of the program, but he should be able to offer the offensive line a unique perspective on how to play the position.
