FSU, UNC tie for most ACC honors in Week 3

Florida State and North Carolina led the way this week as each school had two players earn ACC honors in Week 3.

After the Seminoles pitched a shutout against Boston College, FSU’s Terrance Smith was named linebacker of the week, while Jalen Ramsey earned top defensive back honors.

Smith had six tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss and a forced fumble that was recovered by Ramsey and brought back 36 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Ramsey also had one interception.

UNC guard Landon Turner was named the offensive lineman of the week for the second time this year following the Tar Heels 48-14 win over Illinois. The senior OL graded out a 90 percent for the third straight time and recorded 11 knockdown blocks.

Turner’s teammate Ryan Switzer was also recognized by the ACC after he returned five punts for 168 yards to break a 64-year old school record previously held by Bud Carson to be named the specialist of the week.

Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya was named the offensive back of the week after he threw for a career-high 379 passing yards and two touchdowns to lead the Hurricanes to a 36-33 OT victory over Nebraska.

Tyler Boyd, Pitt’s 6-2, 200-pound pass catcher, earned receiver of the week honors after hauling in 10 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown during the Panthers 27-24 loss to Iowa.

The defensive lineman of the week was Boston College sophomore Harold Landry, who racked up a career-high 4.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks during the Eagles 14-0 loss to No. 9 FSU.

Wake Forest quarterback Kendall Hinton was the conference’s top rookie as he filled in for injured starter John Wolford after the third play of the game against Army and led the Demon Deacons to a 17-4 victory.

Hinton finished the game completing 15 of his 27 attempts for 159 yards and ran for both of the Deacons touchdowns.
