FSU football coach Jimbo Fisher got a contract extension Monday. We discuss how FSU fans reacted to the news on social media.

FSU football coach Jimbo Fisher was in the headlines weeks ago with LSU in hot pursuit to hire him as their coach for the second year in a row.

Fisher spurned the Tigers for the second consecutive year, and has received a contract extension.

FSU Athletic Director Stan Wilcox spoke on the matter via press release:

“Coach Fisher has done an outstanding job in leading our football program, and is clearly one of the top coaches in college football,” said Wilcox.  “”He is committed to maintaining the elite status of FSU football and we are fortunate and proud to secure him for the long term.”

Coach Fisher:

“I am proud to be the football coach at Florida State University, and I am happy we were able to reach a long-term contract to have our staff in place for a long time,” said Fisher.  “We are committed to developing young men in all phases of their lives and we have the administrative staff in place to do this.

“Florida State is a special place and I look forward to continuing to build on our past success into the future.”

Thoughts

Overall, it means Jimbo will likely remain with FSU football for quite some time. I thought him turning down LSU for the second year in a row let other schools know that he probably wasn’t leaving anytime soon.

The only team I could see Jimbo leaving FSU for is Alabama if or when Nick Saban leaves.

It also means that fans will continue to expect or increase their championship expectations.

Fisher will be near 60 years old if the entire contract plays out. Now, here’s to hoping Fisher can make the necessary adjustments to his coaching staff.
