Fresno State names Zack Greenlee starting QB

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) Sophomore Zack Greenlee will be the starting quarterback for Fresno State this season.

Coach Tim DeRuyter said Wednesday that Greenlee will start for the Bulldogs in their season opener Sept. 3 against Abilene Christian. Greenlee won a competition with junior Ford Childress, redshirt freshman Kilton Anderson and freshman Chason Virgil.

Greenlee is the most experienced of the four quarterbacks and is the only one of them to attempt a pass in a Bulldogs uniform. Greenlee played three games last year as a redshirt freshman with one start. He completed 18 of 41 passes for 213 yards and one touchdown.

DeRuyter says he plans to use at least two quarterbacks in the opener with Virgil getting the first opportunity off the bench.
