Fournette out as No, 21 LSU meets Jacksonville St.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) LSU star and Heisman Trophy hopeful Leonard Fournette has been given the night off against Jacksonville State, allowing him to rest his sore left ankle.

When No. 21 LSU took the field before kickoff on Saturday night, Fournette was not in uniform, but rather in a purple warm-up suit.

Fournette rushed for 138 yards last weekend in a 16-14 LSU loss to Wisconsin at Green Bay's Lambeau Field. On his final run, he appeared to take a heavy hit to his left ankle, which had also bothered him during August camp.

LSU's primary reserve running backs include Derrius Guice, Darrel Williams and Nick Brossette.

This marks the first game Fournette, a junior, has missed in his career.
