Former Syracuse football star, Ryan Nassib placed on IR by New York Giants

Former Syracuse star, Ryan Nassib, was placed on IR by the New York Giants. Could that be the last time we see Nassib in a New York Giants uniform?

The New York Giants have placed  backup quarterback Ryan Nassib on injured reserve. The team announced the move on Tuesday.

Nassib has had a recurring elbow injury this season according to the team’s injury report. The Giants also placed running back Shane Vereen on IR as well.

In a reactionary move the Giants signed linebacker Ishaq Williams off their practice squad, as well as running back George Winn.

The Giants must’ve been anticipating this move as they were one of only a handful of teams that carried three quarterbacks throughout the season.

With Nassib sidelined, Josh Johnson becomes Manning’s backup. Johnson has appeared in 29 games with five starts but hasn’t played in a regular-season game since Dec. 22, 2013.

He last threw a regular-season pass on Dec. 11, 2011, for Tampa Bay at Jacksonville. His most recent start was Dec. 4, 2011 against Carolina.

The Giants traded up to take Nassib in the fourth round of the 2013 draft, after which Reese offered the following assessment:

“If he doesn’t ever play, that would be great. That’s a good problem to have.”

Well he never was forced to play and is in the midst of a contract year. Seems like his Giants career is all but over, but stranger things have happened in the NFL.
