Former Duke Football Player Returns to Campus to Rehab Injury

Former Duke Football and Seattle Seahawks tight end Cooper Helfet is back in Durham rehabbing an injury and preparing to return to the NFL.

Former All-ACC Honorable Mention tight end Cooper Helfet recently returned to the Duke football program to rehab a foot injury that prevented him from playing in the NFL this season.

Cooper Helfet excelled in his two year career with the Blue Devils after transferring from Santa Rosa College catching 77 passes for 775 yards and six touchdowns. He also has an excellent story of how he made it to the NFL, going undrafted after graduating from Duke. Helfet spent most of the 2013 season on the practice squad for the Seattle Seahawks, but then worked his way onto the active roster playing a key role for the team making back-to-back Super Bowls as a back-up tight end and winning in 2014.

Helfet was waived by the Seahawks this offseason after breaking a bone in his foot, but hopes to make it back into the NFL by returning to Duke during the season. There’s no official timetable on the amount of time it will take Cooper Helfet to heal from the injury but hopefully we will get to see him back on the field soon.
