FCS All-America OT transfers to Florida, eligible to play in 2015

The Florida Gators may have solved one of the biggest holes on their roster with the addition of former Fordham offensive lineman Mason Halter.

Halter is a two-time Football Championship Subdivision All-American and has already received his undergraduate degree, thus he is eligible to play for the Gators immediately.

Halter started the past three years for Fordham and would have returned to Fordham if possible, according to PilotOnline.com.

“I never had any intention of leaving,” he said.

However the Patriot League does not honor redshirt seasons.

Halter was diagnosed with mononucleosis his freshman year and was forced to sit out that season. With his Patriot League eligibility used up, Halter's only option to continue his playing career was to transfer to another school.

With no returning offensive linemen, Florida presents an immediate opportunity for Halter to see the field in Gainesville.

“But this was a great opportunity," he said. "I could not turn it down.”

Will FCS-level blocking translate to the SEC? We shall soon find out.
