Ex-Miami coach Al Golden joining Detroit Lions as tight ends coach

The Detroit Lions hired former University of Miami head coach Al Golden as their new tight ends coach, the team announced.

Golden now gets to coach former first-rounder Eric Ebron, who caught eight passes for 199 yards in his final game at UNC against Miami.

The 46-year-old Golden was a tight end at Penn State under Joe Paterno. He went 59-59 in 10 seasons as a college head coach, going 32-25 in five seasons at Miami before being fired in 2015 with a 4-3 record. Last week, the Lions also hired another former college head coach Randy Edsall, who had been let go at Maryland in 2015.

The 57-year-old Edsall was hired as the Lions' director of football research/special projects.

Golden and Edsall join former Kansas State head coach Ron Prince, Detroit's O-line coach, on Jim Caldwell's coaching staff.
