Ex-A&M star accused of killing jogger with machete found incompetent to stand trial

Thomas Johnson, the former Texas A&M football star who allegedly killed a jogger with a machete, was found incompetent to stand trial after a court-ordered mental health expert's report, the Dallas Morning News reported. 

According to the Morning News, the 21-year-old Johnson will be sent to North Texas State Hospital for up to 120 days of treatment and evaluation "with a likelihood that he will regain competency in future," his attorney Jennifer Balido said.

The former Texas A&M wide receiver was accused of taking a large knife to 53-year-old marathoner Dave Stevens at Dallas' White Rock Creek Trail on Oct. 12, 2015. Police said Johnson confessed to the killing. 

Relatives said Johnson, a standout player at Dallas Skyline High School who abruptly quit the Texas A&M team in 2012, was diagnosed with schizophrenia before the slaying.
