Diamont not conceding Hoosiers starting QB job
After being pressed into action because of Nate Sudfeld's injury in 2014, Zander Diamont could be stuck on the bench all season.
Of course, that was the plan last year and it didn't exactly work out that way because of Sudfeld's shoulder injury, but Kevin Wilson would prefer to see his senior (Sudfeld) stay on the field and lead the Hoosiers to a bowl berth while Diamont preserves a year of eligibility and redshirt freshman Danny Cameron handles mop-up duty.
If that is not possible, so be it.
"If Zander is the two, to get his year back, that’s what we’ll do, but I don’t control that," Wilson said (per HoosierScoop). "If it’s Week 11 and all of a sudden we needed him? (I’ll say) ‘I’m sorry, but it’s a three-week run, baby, and we need you. Let’s go.'"
For his part, Diamont plans to push Sudfeld through the summer and on into preseason camp.
“Nate deserves that first shot at the No. 1 spot and he’s been playing great and you saw that (in the spring game), but he knows that me and him are competing and I’m coming for it. I support him and hope he does great.”
