Dartmouth hires son of Don Shula as assistant football coach

HANOVER, N.H. (AP) Dartmouth has hired a son of Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Don Shula as an assistant football coach.

The Valley News reported Thursday that David Shula has agreed to guide the Big Green's receivers for coach Buddy Teevens.

Shula is the oldest of five children of Don Shula, who coached the Baltimore Colts and Miami Dolphins and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1997 after winning a league-record 347 games. He became the only coach to guide an NFL team through a perfect season when the 1972 Dolphins went 17-0.

David Shula coached the Cincinnati Bengals from 1992-1996, when they went 19-52. He previously worked for the Dallas Cowboys and under his father with the Dolphins.

David Shula is a Dartmouth alumnus who twice earned All-Ivy honors at wide receiver.
