Dabo Swinney agrees to hefty new contract with Clemson

Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney has been due for a contract upgrade and now he's getting a substantial one.

The Clemson board of trustees' compensation committee has agreed to a new contract that will pay Swinney $30.75 million over the next six years, according to the contract term sheet.

"This new contract was important for us not only for what Dabo has accomplished in his eight seasons here but for what we know the program will continue to achieve -- both on and off the field -- for the foreseeable future," athletic director Dan Radakovich said in a release.

The new deal will also award bonuses to Swinney for ACC Championship and College Football Playoff and Championship appearances and victories.

"I'm excited and thankful for the opportunity to do what I love at such a great institution," Swinney said in a release. "We've built a solid foundation of success and will continue to work toward our goals of preparing young men for their future and being successful in everything we do."

Swinney, who has an overall record of 75-27 in his eight seasons at Clemson, earned the Bear Bryant Coach of the Year Award for 2015 after leading his Tigers to the national championship game, where they fell to his alma mater Alabama.
