Cubit happy with OL play this season

Coming into 2015, the Illini figured to be in a lot of shootouts.

Their offense hasn't quite lived up to expectations mostly due to inexperienced pass catches and Wes Lunt recovering from his knee injury. However, one bright spot has been the pass protection that the offensive line has given Wes Lunt.

Head coach Bill Cubit mentioned that today on the Big Ten conference call:

"Last year he was getting hit a lot, and I attribute some of that to offensive line play, some of it to him, of course, not getting rid of the ball, and some of it really to the wideouts not being in the right spots," Cubit said. "So I think we're a little bit more in sync. Our wideouts are still growing, they're still a work in progress. But I think our offensive line has handled it pretty well, and really Wes, he understands the system a lot better, knows where to get the ball, he's releasing the ball quicker than we did last year."

The team has only allowed three sacks in four games. They will need another good performance from the offensive line on Saturday as they figure to lean heavily on the pass against a shaky Nebraska pass defense.
