Copeland with 3 TDs leads Incarnate Word to 44-34 win
ABILENE, Texas (AP) — Jon Copeland threw for three touchdowns and Incarnate Word beat Abilene Christian 44-34 on Saturday night.
Copeland was 15 of 36 for 258 yards passing for the Cardinals (2-2, 2-0 Southland Conference). Ra'Quanne Dickens ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries and Kody Edwards had 133 yards and a score receiving.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Cardinals moved ahead for good when Kam Williams threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Copeland for a 34-28 edge. Rhett Marshall kicked a 48-yard field goal to close the quarter and the Cardinals led 37-28.
The teams traded touchdowns all through the first half, though Cardinals' kicker Cody Seidel had a PAT blocked, leaving Incarnate Word trailing 21-20 with 8:13 left in the second quarter. Abilene Christian led 28-27 at halftime.
Luke Anthony threw for 345 yards and three touchdowns for the Wildcats (2-3, 1-2).
