Come fall camp, linebacker battle set to get down and dirty

Worried That TCU won't be able to replace a trio of standout linebackers? Have no fear.

It just means coach Gary Patterson gets to coach even harder to get players who have never started a college football game, and even some who have never played in a college football game to be ready for the Sept. 3 season opener at Minnesota.

Heading into the summer, linebacker is the top position with the fewest concrete answers at the moment as to which players will win starting jobs. Freshman Mike Freeze was somewhat surprisingly on top of the depth chart following spring practices, along with Sammy Douglas, but that is hardly written in stone.

Competition will heat up when fall camp opens in August. Other positions to watch in a few months will be at cornerback, where TCU needs to replace Kevin White, and at tackle, the lone open spot on the Horned Frogs' high-octane offense.
