College football odds Week 1: How to bet Clemson-Georgia Tech

The Clemson Tigers will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the second game of college football's Week 1 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff.

The game will be played at the Mercedes Benz Dome in Atlanta. So although the two teams aren't meeting at the Yellow Jackets' Bobby Dodd Stadium, the No. 4 Tigers will meet the Yellow Jackets in their home city.

Can the unranked Jackets pull the upset in this Prime Time, Monday night matchup? Or will the top-ranked Tigers be too tough to beat?

Here's everything you need from a betting perspective on the game between Clemson and Georgia Tech from the point spread, moneyline and total over/under (odds via FOX Bet).

No. 4 Clemson @ Georgia Tech (8 p.m. ET Monday, ESPN)

Point spread: Clemson -22 (Clemson favored to win by more than 22 points, otherwise Georgia Tech covers)
Moneyline: Clemson -5000 favorite to win (bet $10 to win $10.20 total); Georgia Tech +1600 underdog to win (bet $10 to win $170 total)
Total scoring over/under: 51 points scored by both teams combined

Coach Dabo Swinney and his Tigers are on a quest to capture another College Football Playoff (CFP) championship. They last won it all in 2018 when they defeated Alabama 44-16. But the team today looks a bit different since that title year.

Trevor Lawrence, the quarterback who helped lead Clemson to that successful season, is in his second year in the NFL, defensive coordinator Brent Venables is now the head coach at Oklahoma, and a host of key players got drafted and are now taking snaps on Sundays.

Last year, Clemson went 10-3 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS), they were 6-7. And when it comes to over/under, Clemson games hit the under eight of 13 times during the 2021 season.

According to FOX Sports Research, Clemson is 23-16-1 ATS and 23-17 SU against Georgia Tech since 1983.

And while Clemson has been a CFP fixture recently, Georgia Tech has struggled to remain relevant in the college football landscape.

The Yellow Jackets went 3-9 last season and have never even sniffed the College Football Playoff. As a matter of fact, the last time the Jackets won a national title was 1990. Against the spread last season, Tech went 4-8, and they hit the under in six of 12 matchups (five hit the over with one push).

It's also worth noting that Georgia Tech is 8-12-1 ATS and 4-17 SU as a double-digit underdog since 2015. This could be helpful for bettors eyeing the 22-point spread.
