Coach offers little clarity in Michigan QB competition

Michigan offensive coordinator Tim Drevno told reporters in Ann Arbor on Monday he not only does not have a starting quarterback yet but still has not reduced the race to two players.

Via the Detroit Free Press, Drevno praised junior Shane Morris for his ability to command the huddle as well as his running ability.

"It's one of his strengths," Drevno said. "He can move around in the pocket, like all of them do, He can find a quiet spot and can get out and scramble. It's really good. That's one thing you look for a quarterback, you look for a quarterback to make a play when there's not one to be made. The great ones can do that."

The coach also said he appreciated the way Iowa transfer Jake Rudock has learned the Michigan offense and takes charge of the huddle, but he gave no indication about who might ultimately start the season-opener against Utah.

Nor did he rule out playing more than one quarterback.

"If it's part of your package, you do it," Drevno said. "If you don't feel like you gain an advantage you don't."
