Clemson looking to unleash a Shaq attack on opponents this year
Most coaches would be worried about the prospects of replacing a pass-rusher that would go on to be the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL draft, but Clemson’s Dabo Swinney is not most coaches.
Swinney is charged with finding a way to replace three defensive ends from the 2014 season that each worked their way onto NFL rosters. The dynamic Vic Beasley is the most prolific of the trio and was selected by Atlanta with the eighth overall pick in the NFL draft, while Corey Crawford and Tavaris Barnes signed free agent deals with Washington and New Orleans, respectively
Swinney may be without Beasley, but he does have Shaq Lawson, a 6-3, 275-pound junior who recorded 3.5 sacks as a backup last year.
“(Lawson) is going to bring some certain things to the table that Vic didn’t,” Swinney told Orange&White.com.
Before joining Clemson, Lawson was rated as the No. 3 prospect in South Carolina by Rivals.com and was the defensive MVP of the North-South All-Star game.
