Clemson Football: There's a reason Feaster isn't listed on the two-deep
The Clemson football depth chart was released for the first time on Tuesday. There is a reason that freshman Tavien Feaster isn’t listed on the two-deep.
The Clemson football depth chart for the Auburn game was released for the first time on Tuesday.
As I glanced over the two-deep, I saw a lot of vanilla. Basically, we knew who the starters and their backups were going to be before the depth chart was even released.
While there were a few surprises, there was one peculiar thing I noticed when I reviewed it for a second time.
At running back, Clemson football has Wayne Gallman listed as the starter and then has Adam Choice, Tyshon Dye, and C.J. Fuller listed as co-backups.
The player that did not make the two-deep? Tavien Feaster.
Feaster, the guy that we’ve seen blow up opposing defenders and outrun players in the secondary, did not even get listed on the two-deep.
Is that because Feaster will wait behind Tyshon Dye, C.J. Fuller, and Adam Choice? No.
Is it because the Clemson football coaching staff plans on redshirting Feaster? No.
Sometimes, the released depth chart from the coaching staff is more of a tactic rather than a pecking order.
Don’t get me wrong, you will see Choice, Dye, and Fuller play at the running back position. As a matter of fact, they may very well get more snaps at the position than Feaster this first week, but there’s a reason the coaching staff did not list Tavien Feaster.

Why would Clemson give away the fact that they are going to give Feaster a chance early to bust off a big run against the Tigers by putting him on the depth chart?
You see what I’m getting at?
I think the Clemson football coaching staff has a specific game plan on how they will use Tavien Feaster. He may line up in the slot. He may line up in the backfield, but they don’t want to give Auburn any kind of head start to know what that role will be.
When Dabo was asked about it at his weekly press conference, he glossed over it just like any Tiger coach would.
“We will use him according to the flow of the game,” said Swinney.
And that’s all he had to say. Normally Dabo would go into some kind of detail or say how he was pleased with what they’ve seen in Feaster, but mums the word in this case.
You see, the more and more I think about it, the more and more I begin to believe that you may see Tavien Feaster on the field within the first couple of series.
I honestly believe that there’s a tactical reason that Tavien Feaster is not listed on the two-deep depth chart for Clemson football and you very well may see him break off a huge play that the coaching staff has been planning on using with the past couple of weeks.
