Cincinnati Football: Bearcats vs. BYU to Kick Off at 3:30 on 11/5

The American Conference has announced that UC-BYU will kick off at 3:30 pm ET inside Nippert Stadium and be televised on CBS Sports Network.

The dream season continues for Bearcat fans – off the field, anyway.  UC’s second to last home game against BYU on November 5 will kick off at 3:30pm.  This means UC just went a whole, seven game home schedule with NO NOON GAMES!  Amazing.  Tailgaters everywhere (including me) are rejoicing.  The irony is that this is the worst the Bearcats have started a season since 2005.

The game will also be televised on CBS Sports Network, which seems to have become home to Cincinnati football of late.  While not as accessible as the ESPN networks, CBSSN is somewhat readily available as long as you subscribe to a “sports pack,” and the games on CBSSN generally kick off later in the day, which generally helps UC at the gate.

UC is out of the race in the AAC East division, but this game is easily their biggest non-conference game of the year.  Honestly, I was kind of hoping for a Nooner against BYU if only for the home field advantage effect.  Noon ET is, of course, 10:00 am MT, which is awful early.  West coast teams tend not to fare well when traveling East and playing early games.  It’s a statistically proven fact in the NFL, where most East coast games start at 1:00, and the same is true in college.

However, 3:30 is great for tailgating, and I think it’s the perfect time for a football game.  Not too early to get a good tailgate going, but not too late to take away your entire evening and put you home at 11:00 pm.  See you all at the lots!
