CFB AM: Five stages of intense grief only Florida fans can understand

Last weekend’s 42-13 home loss to Missouri drove Florida fans into an even deeper state of despair.

At 3-3, their Gators are muddling along in what’s shaping up to be another mediocre season.

Things got so bad against Mizzou that the crowd began chanting, “Fire Muschamp.”

Just how ugly is it to be a Gators fan right now?

One Florida fan made a “five stages of grief” video by mashing together sad text messages sent between he and some Gators fans. You probably have to root for UF to truly understand what you’re about to watch, but it’s hilarious and remarkable work. Here’s the video.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

1) Speaking of head coach Will Muschamp, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley released a brief statement on Monday after the hot seat talk continued to ramp up in Gainesville. The entire 40-word statement:

"At the beginning of the season we said we would evaluate the season as it plays out," Foley said. "We will continue to do so. Our sole focus right now is supporting our coaching staff and players as they prepare for Georgia."

Interpret that how you like.

2) Archie Manning is taking a leave of absence from the College Football Playoff committee after knee surgery has left him unable to travel. With the committee set to meet in Dallas at the end of this week and release its first playoff poll next Tuesday, Manning couldn’t make it work. He’s expected to return to the committee in 2015.

3) Great news for Arizona State and a development that could swing the Pac-12 South: The Sun Devils expect to get starting QB Taylor Kelly back this week against Washington. Kelly has been out since injuring his foot on Sept. 13, and backup Mike Bercovici did a fine job in his place. ASU is one of four teams with one conference loss in the Pac-12 South, and it has the tiebreaker over USC.

THREE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

1) Stewart Mandel had his Week 8 Forward Pass column out on Monday, leading with three one-loss teams that shouldn’t be counted out of the playoff race, plus much more. Check it out if you have a few minutes.

2) This should get a response from the SEC at some point this week: A Tennessee staffer was seen on video sticking his leg out in what appeared to be an attempt to trip Ole Miss’ Senquez Golson on the sideline after he intercepted a pass and ran out of bounds. Here’s the video:

3) Haven’t heard this one before: Two Oklahoma State players were arrested for public intoxication after falling asleep in the drive-through lane of a fast-food restaurant.

THREE THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW

1) Jimbo Fisher cut an interview session short after being asked about Jameis Winston’s off-field issues and whether Fisher’s reputation has taken a hit. “Why is my reputation taking a hit?” Fisher said. “For backing a kid who has done nothing wrong? I don’t want to get into this. The questions weren’t supposed to be asked today. I’m done.” Here’s video of the exchange (see 1:50 mark or so).

2) Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino predicted the Cardinals will upset Florida State when they get the Seminoles at home next Thursday. I’m sure Bobby Petrino appreciates the bulletin material.

3) Only in the South: A Tennessee political campaign took a shot at the incumbent by comparing her to Lane Kiffin.
