BYU football: The five best games of Kyle Van Noy's career

Kyle Van Noy will be playing with the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 51. What better way to celebrate than by remembering the five best games of his BYU football career?

Kyle Van Noy was one of the best players to ever suit up for BYU football. He was an electric play maker who was always one of the best players on the field.

That’s one of the reason so many BYU football fans were stumped when Van Noy’s career started floundering in Detroit.

Then in October he was traded to the Patriots.

Now he’s playing in the biggest game of his life.

Van Noy’s football journey is an incredible one, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by reliving his best games as a Cougar.

2013 Texas, 2012 SDSU, 2011 Tulsa,

No. 5: At New Mexico State, 2012

Van Noy went off against the Aggies on this day. He collected five tackles and three sacks in the 50-14 win. Granted, New Mexico State isn’t a powerhouse, but any time a player collects three sacks in a single game it’s worth remembering. Plus, Van Noy did plenty that didn’t show up on the stat sheet – like stuffing holes in the run game.

No. 4: Georgia Tech, 2013

2013’s Homecoming game brought the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to Provo. Van Noy collected six tackles and three sacks. His three sacks accounted for 75 percent of his 2013 season total. The Cougars won the game 38-20.

No. 3: Tulsa, 2011 Armed Forces Bowl

Players make plays, and that’s exactly what Van Noy did against Tulsa.

This game is mostly remembered for the Riley Nelson to Cody Hoffman fake spike touchdown, but Van Noy went off against the Golden Hurricanes.

Van Noy posted 10 tackles – nine of them solo and five of them for a loss. He also gathered two sacks and forced a fumble. BYU won the game 24-21.

No. 2: Texas, 2013

The No. 15 Longhorns came to Provo looking for a win, but Taysom Hill and the Cougar running attack plowed them to the tune of a school-record 550 yards.

But perhaps lost in the shuffle was Van Noy’s defensive performance for BYU football.

Van Noy collected eight tackles and one sack in the game, but he continually walloped Texas quarterback David Ash. He alone had five quarterback hits in the game – the most of any game in his career.

No. 1: San Diego State, 2012 Poinsettia Bowl

There’s no denying that the 2012 Poinsettia Bowl was the greatest single game of Van Noy’s storied BYU football career.
