BYU football: Cougars pick up Utah transfer
The BYU football team landed a transfer from the University of Utah. Safety Austin Lee took to Instagram to announce the move.
According to his Instagram, former Utah Ute safety Austin Lee is coming to Provo to be part of the BYU football team.
Lee apparently took a visit to BYU last weekend and he took to social media and posted a picture in BYU blue.
Lee committed to the University of Utah in 2012, but then departed on a two-year LDS mission to Oklahoma. After returning, he appeared in seven games for the Utes in 2015 and collected four tackles, mostly playing special teams.
According to the Deseret News, Lee is currently taking classes and will enroll at BYU in January 2017.
Lee was an all-state safety while at Alta High School and was a three-star recruit. Lee should be eligible next season for head coach Kalani Sitake and defensive coordinator Ilaisa Tuiaki because he left the Utes before this season began.

Kai Nacua and Eric Takenaka will both depart BYU football after graduating, so the addition of Lee will be a welcome one for the Cougar secondary. Lee has three seasons of eligibility remaining and while it’s way too early to solidify anything, Lee might end up slotting into a starting spot with Micah Hannemann as a safety.
Lee’s high school highlights can be seen below.
The BYU football team takes on the UMass Minutemen on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 12:05 p.m. MST. The Cougars will be looking to win their third-straight game.
