Brooks, Glover help Penn jump out early, beat Bucknell 34-17

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Karekin Brooks ran for two first-quarter touchdowns as Pennsylvania jumped out to a big early lead in its season-opener and beat Bucknell 34-17 on Saturday.

Ryan Glover threw a pair of touchdown passes for Penn (1-0), which has beaten Bucknell (0-3) in seven straight games.

Both Brooks' scoring runs came from inside the seven-yard line. Jack Soslow kicked field goals from 48 and 49 yards, and Glover hit Tyler Herrick with a 33-yard TD pass and the Quakers led 27-3 early in the second quarter.

Logan Bitikofer threw two touchdown passes to pull the Bison to 27-17 with 13:00 remaining in the third quarter, but the Bison picked up only three more first downs from there.

The game was delayed late in the third quarter when Penn's senior starting safety and captain Sam Philippi was injured and left the field on a stretcher.

It was the 35th meeting between the schools, but the first since 2010 in a series that began in 1895.
