Briles on Bears offense: 'We really didn't get into a rhythm'

By the numbers, it certainly doesn't appear that Baylor's offense has missed a beat despite a new offensive coordinator who was suspended for one game and a first-time quarterback.

Art Briles' son, Kendal, took over as the offensive coordinator in last season's Cotton Bowl, and Seth Russell is succeeding two-time Big 12 champion Bryce Petty under center. In two games, Baylor has put 122 points on SMU and Lamar, and a Big 12-best 1,508 yards.

And talk about the ability to spread the wealth, Baylor rotates three talented rushers, each of which topped 100 yards in last week's win over Lamar, and multiple receivers capable of being all-Big 12 selections.

Not bad, right?

"We're not sitting around patting ourselves on the back at all," Art Briles said during his weekly press conference. "We understand that we could've played a tremendously more active football game from an offensive standpoint.

"We really didn't get into a rhythm that lets us feel good about what we're doing and why we're doing it."

That's probably not what Saturday's opponent, the Rice Owls wanted to hear. Rice is coming off a 42-28 drubbing to the Texas Longhorns, a team with a far less threatening offense than Baylor.
