Big 12 Recruiting: Where will five-star Anthony Hines commit?
Prospect of the Week: Sam Ehlinger
Scout Top 100 quarterback Sam Ehlinger is the prospect of the week after leading Austin (Texas) Westlake past Laredo (Texas) United 55–15 in the third round of the Texas High School Football playoffs. Ehlinger passed for 203 yards and two touchdowns in the first half of the win. It was his second game back after missing most of his senior year due to a thumb injury. The 6’2”, 215-pound four-star met with new Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman on Tuesday and solidified his commitment to play in the Big 12, where he has been committed since July 2015.
Prospect on the Rise: Abram Smith
Tulsa got an absolute steal in the three-star running back from Abilene (Texas) but will have to fight to keep him on the committed list as he recently added an offer from Texas Tech in the Big 12 Conference. He is a back who has tremendous patience and balance. He reads the play and when he cuts it up field he has a knack for finding the endzone. Smith led Abilene to an 11–2 record this season with 2,006 yards from scrimmage, including 1,927 rushing yards. Smith ran for more than 4,600 yards in his high school career.
Underclassman of the Week: Alan Bowman
Bowman led Grapevine to a 10–2 record this season as he threw for 3,240 yards, 42 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He has garnered a lot of early interest but still awaits his first offer. That shouldn't take much longer. Bowman has the size and skills to be a P5 quarterback, not to mention the pedigree—his father played tight end on Penn State's 1982 national title team. In the Big 12 he currently lists Iowa State, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech as schools of interest.
Commit of the Week: Spencer Misko
Kansas State picked up its latest commitment for the 2017 class Sunday as 6’5”, 235-pound three-star defensive end Spencer Misko committed to the Wildcats following an official visit weekend. Misko has played defensive end during his high school career at Keller near Fort Worth, Texas, but said he could wind up on either side of the ball at Kansas State. "They see me as a multi-hybrid position player at tight end or defensive end," Misko said.
Commitment Watch: Anthony Hines
The five-star linebacker from Plano (Texas) East will be making his decision on Friday and he has a top six of Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, TCU, Texas A&M, and UCLA. TCU is the only school in the Big 12 to make his final grouping and Gary Patterson will have an in-home visit with him Thursday. Heading down the home-stretch Texas made a final late push for the No. 1-rated inside linebacker with an in-home visit from assistant coach Oscar Giles, but it likely came too late.
