Bercovici: "We didn't make the plays that were necessary"
Arizona State came up short in their opening season game vs. Texas A&M, showing lots of room to improve after the 38-17 loss.
Mike Bercovici, the senior quarterback from Southern California, certainly had numerous chances to get something started for ASU. He was 25-of-41, but managed to earn only 199 yards -- good for a mere 4.85 yards per attempt.
While he did not throw an interception, Bercovici only scored one touchdown and was sacked nine times.
Of course, he had an impressive defensive line (highlighted by Myles Garrett, Daeshon Hall and Donovan Wilson) from Texas A&M attacking him. As such, the ASU offense managed just 17.1 yards per drive.
“Dropping a football -- it’s on me, it’s on receivers, it’s on the line,” said Bercovici, according to ESPN's Chantel Jennings. "At the end of the day, we didn’t make the plays that were necessary. For that I take full responsibility.”
