Beamer: Ohio State game 'most anticipated game ever to come'
Frank Beamer did not sound like a man trying to downplay what is in front of his Virginia Tech football team when it opens the season against defending national champion Ohio State on Sept. 7.
"In the last several years, we've really had a lot of important games: I think it's the most anticipated game ever to come," the long-time head coach of the Hokies told reporters at the ACC Football Media Days.
That is a big statement, but it is hard to argue.
His team famously upset Ohio State at Ohio Stadium early last season, but the Buckeyes rebounded to win the national championship while the Hokies had a hard time finding consistency and ended up 7-6.
That means the Buckeyes will have revenge on their mind this time around.
"Talent wise, they're by far the No. 1 team in the country," Beamer said. "They're coming to Blacksburg on a Monday night. You don't have that opportunity that often. I know for fans, they've looked forward to it. We have, too. I mean, it's the best team in the country coming to your house. You want to make the best of that."
