Baylor will be down passing-game coordinator against Oklahoma

The Baylor Bears will play Saturday's crucial Big 12 game against Oklahoma shorthanded -- they'll be down a coach.

Passing-game coordinator and running backs coach Jeff Lebby is suspended for the first half of the Sooners game for a scouting violation back in September. During an early Baylor bye, Lebby was in the Norman, Okla., area for a wedding. Tulsa, coached by former Baylor offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery, happened to be playing at Oklahoma. Montgomery provided a field pass for Lebby, who was spotted on the sideline.

When Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops discovered Lebby's presence on the opposite sideline after the game, he angrily reported it to the Big 12. A conference opponent is not allowed on another team's sideline when it is playing a Big 12 team.

Lebby is a former OU player and he is also Baylor coach Art Briles' son-in-law. Initially, Briles said he would not discipline Lebby, but after the conference office got involved, Briles suspended him for the first half of Saturday's game.

On Monday, Briles didn't say much about the disciplinary action.

“I’ve got my feelings, my views about it, the situation and all involved,” Briles said. “I’ll keep mine private.”
