Under first-year head coach Scott Frost, UCF isn’t quite back among the ranks of the elite in the American Athletic Conference. But they have certainly made strides this season, returning to bowl eligibility after going winless in 2015. Their reward is a trip to the Cure Bowl across town to their former home stadium. Frost, the former Oregon offensive coordinator, still has a lot of work to do to restore the Knights’ offense, but the team’s defense drastically improved.

Their opponents, Arkansas State, won a share of the Sun Belt and reached a bowl for the sixth straight year. The Red Wolves recovered from an 0-4 start which included a loss to FCS Central Arkansas to win seven of their last eight. Blake Anderson’s team was dependent on a defense that ranked among the top 25 scoring defenses in the country. If they beat UCF, it will be Arkansas State’s first win over a non-conference opponent this season.

This is just the sophomore campaign for the Cure Bowl, which became Orlando’s third bowl game last season with San Jose State’s 27-16 win over Georgia State. It is also one of just four bowl games that are not featured on the ESPN/ABC stable of networks, but you should still have no trouble getting to catch the action even if you aren’t in Orlando.
