Austin Peay hires Chattanooga assistant Healy as head coach

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Austin Peay has hired Chattanooga assistant Will Healy as its head coach and is counting on the 30-year-old to turn around a program that has won just once over the last three seasons.

The school released a statement Monday saying Healy would be introduced at a Wednesday news conference. Athletic director Ryan Ivey called Healy ''a rising star in the profession.''

Healy replaces Kirby Cannon, who was fired after going 1-34 in a three-year tenure that included an 0-11 mark this season.

Healy has spent the last seven seasons at Chattanooga and held the titles of receivers coach and passing game coordinator this year. Chattanooga reached the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs each of the last two years. Healy played on Richmond's 2008 FCS championship team.
