Auburn Football vs. Arkansas State: Odds and Expert Predictions

Most betting websites have Auburn football as a 19 point favorite against Arkansas State this Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

We all remember what happened in week two last season when Auburn was a 42 point favorite against Jacksonville State. The Tigers will try to avoid that situation against a Red Wolves team that lost 31-10 to Toledo last weekend.

The SEC bloggers on ESPN all chose Auburn to bounce back with a win against Arkansas State this weekend.

Over at Bleacher Report, Brian Pedersen has Auburn football covering the spread with a 37-13 win over Arkansas State.

Our good buddy Brian Stultz who also write for Campus Insiders, has Auburn football winning 27-13, which means they would not cover the spread.

The guys at College Football News have this one a little closer with Auburn football escaping with a 10 point victory.

Most outlets did not even bother predicting this game because it should be a blow out. I’m hoping they are right and Auburn does indeed cover the 19 point spread.

I will warn you, Arkansas State is not as bad as they played against Toledo last weekend. They are favored to win the Sun Belt conference, and they’re coming off a nine win season.

They covered the spread against Missouri in week two last season losing by just a touchdown.

However, they’re last win against a power five team came in 2008 when they took down Texas A&M of the Big 12 conference.

The over/under for the game is at 54 or 54.5 points – that’s how many points the two teams will combine to score in the game.

For this to be a successful game for the Auburn offense I think they have to score at least 30 points. And that doesn’t include any points the defense may score, I want to see 30 points from the offense.

As far as the defense goes, I would be surprised if they gave up more than 17 points. More than likely I think the defense holds Arkansas State to 10 or 13 points. If the defense scores a touchdown then I think Auburn approaches 40 points in the game.

    My prediction:

    Auburn: 31

    Arkansas State: 13
