Auburn Football Drops Just Two Spots after Iron Bowl Loss

In the final AP poll of the regular season, Auburn football falls to No. 18 in the country after a 30-12 loss to No. 1 Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Auburn football, now 8-4 (5-3) after a 30-12 loss to No. 1 Alabama in the Iron Bowl, falls to No. 18 in the latest AP Poll.

The Tigers entered the AP poll for the first time this season at No. 21 back in week 7 after their 38-14 win on the road over Mississippi State.

They rose all the way up to No. 8 after winning six games in row, but fell to No. 18 after a loss to Georgia. Auburn rose back up to No. 16 for the Iron Bowl, and after a competitive game at No. 1 Alabama, they move to No. 18.

The small dip in the rankings almost guarantees that Auburn will finish the season in the top 25 even if they lose their bowl game.

On the other hand, a win in the bowl game would most certainly put Auburn in the top 15 to end the season, and possibly to start to the 2017 season.

Around the SEC, Alabama holds onto the No. 1 spot unanimously as they’re the only power five team still undefeated.

Florida is the next highest ranked SEC team at No. 15 after their loss to No. 12 Florida State Saturday night.

LSU is the only other SEC team in the top 25 as they come in at No. 21 after a win over Texas A&M on Thanksgiving Day.

Texas A&M and Tennessee both fell out of the top 25. The Volunteers ended their regular season with an embarrassing loss to their in-state rival Vanderbilt.

Four teams is the least amount of SEC teams in the top 25 for quite some time. I think that points to the conference being down this year, and also with the parity in the conference.

Hopefully Auburn football can end the season with a win and finish as the second highest ranked team in the SEC.
