Arkansas hires Paul Rhoads as defensive backs coach

With Clay Jennings unexpectedly leaving to take the defensive backs position at Texas, Bret Bielema needed to act quickly.

Targeting a coach both skilled and established, the Arkansas head coach ultimately landed on Paul Rhoads. The former Iowa State head coach brings considerable experience to the table when looking at his complete resume.

His 27-year coaching career on the collegiate level has included stops at Iowa State, Auburn, Ohio State, and Pitt. From a defensive backs standpoint, he's been particularly impressive. Rhoads has sent six DBs to the NFL during his coaching career -- including all-everything corner Darrelle Revis.

Rhoads extensive knowledge of the college game -- coupled with his prior managerial skills as a head coach -- surely appealed to Bielema.

"Paul has a long standing reputation as a great teacher and recruiter even prior to his years of experience as a coordinator and head coach," said Bielema. "He instantly brings years of experience to our defensive staff room and has coached the secondary and defensive backs to the highest levels of success."
