Arizona State fans encouraged not to wear blackface for 'blackout' game

Every year, Arizona State wears all-black uniforms on the field and encourages fans to wear black in the stands.

This year, however, the Sun Devils have issued a precaution urging fans not to wear blackface during the "blackout" game vs. Colorado on Saturday. According to AZcentral.com, the Arizona State Black African Coalition asked the school to prohibit all face paint. But the administration instead decided to "strongly discourage" the makeup.

"As an inclusive and forward-thinking university, it is important for us to foster an environment in which everyone feels safe and accepted," ASU wrote, in a statement

"Therefore, we discourage the use of face paint at any event, whether the theme is black, maroon, gold or white, and ask our fans to show their Sun Devil Pride in other ways."
