Ahmmon Richards Named ACC Co Rookie Of the Week
Ahmmon Richards has earned ACC Rookie of the Week after setting a school record for a true freshman with 144 yards receiving on four receptions. Richards shared the award with Georgia Tech’s Dedrick Mills who scored three touchdowns.
Richards had two vital receptions in the second half. Sixty-one and 62-yard receptions keyed two drives and set Miami up for touchdowns that put the game away. Miami crushed Appalachian State 45-10.
Richards is the first UM player to be named a player of the week this season. It’s likely not the last time Richards receives ACC Rookie of the week. He is going to be counted on a lot the rest of the season. With classmate Sam Bruce possibly out for the season, Richards and Stacy Coley are going to be Brad Kaaya’s go to receivers.
Through three games, Richards is the ‘Hurricanes leader in receiving yards and yards per catch and second in receptions and receiving touchdowns. Richards impact is rare among freshman. He ranks 83rd nationally in receiving yards, but third among freshmen. South Carolina tops all freshmen with 207 receiving yards, Richards is only four yards behind him.
