ACC weekly awards: Watson does it again
Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson earned his fourth ACC weekly award of the season as he threw for 343 yards and three touchdowns to lead the No. 1 Tigers past Wake Forest, 33-13.
Watson also rushed for 44 yards and a score to be named the ACC Offensive Back of the Week.
N.C. State had two players recognized as Joe Thuney was named the top lineman and wide receiver Nyheim Hines was the top rookie.
Thuney did not allow a sack and helped pave the way for the Wolfpack to gain 511 yards of total offense during its 42-29 win over Syracuse. Hines tallied 208 yards of total offense and had TD runs of four and 38 yards.
Louisville’s Jamari Staples had a monster game during the Cards 45-34 loss to Pitt as he pulled in nine passes for a career-high 194 yards and a touchdown to be named the league’s top wideout.
Pitt’s Ejaun Price was equally impressive as the defensive end tallied 10 tackles and five sacks. Price’s five sacks were the most by an FBS player so far this season.
Virginia’s Micah Kiser earned top linebacker honors after he racked up a career-high 17 tackles and a sack during the Cavs’ win over Duke.
Boston College senior free safety Justin Simmons was the top DB after he forced and recovered a fumble and recorded an interception during the Eagles’ loss to No. 4 Notre Dame.
The specialist of the week was Duke kick returner DeVon Edwards who returned five kicks for 174 yards, including a 94-yard return for a touchdown.
