ACC teams learn their bowl destinations

On Sunday the bowl destinations for the nine ACC teams that qualified for the postseason were announced and there are plenty of intriguing matchups on the docket.

Clemson (13-0) earned the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoffs after topping No. 10 North Carolina (11-2) in the ACC title game and as a result will face No. 4 Oklahoma (11-1) on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. in the Orange Bowl in Miami in a CFP semifinal matchup.

The Tar Heels, who saw their 11-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday, will face No. 17 Baylor (9-3) in the Russell Athletic Bowl at 5:30 p.m. Like UNC, Baylor lost its conference title game and will be looking to end the year on a positive note.

No. 9 Florida State (10-2) will play in a New Year’s Six bowl against AAC champions, No. 18 Houston (12-1), when they square off in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Dec. 31 at noon.

N.C. State (7-5) will clash with Mississippi State (8-4) in the Belk Bowl, which will be played on Dec. 30 at 3:30 p.m.

An up-and-down season for Duke (7-5) will come to end when it takes on Indiana (6-6) in the Pinstripe Bowl in Yankee Stadium.

Miami (8-4) came on late in the season and will look to continue its momentum when it faces Washington State (8-4) in the Sun Bowl in El Paso on Dec. 26 at 2 p.m.

Louisville (7-5) earned an invite to the Music City Bowl and will take on Texas A&M (8-4) on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m.

The Military Bowl invite went to Pitt (8-4), who will collide with No. 21 Navy (9-2) and its Heisman candidate quarterback Keenan Reynolds at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 28.

Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer will coach his final game in the Independence Bowl in Louisiana when the Hokies face Tulsa (6-6) on Dec. 26 at 5:45 p.m.

Beamer has led his team to 23 straight bowl appearances, a streak that ironically started with the Independence Bowl in 1993.
