ACC Football Standings: UNC doesn't get help from Pitt

The Tar Heels were on a bye but there was still a big game that involved their ACC Coastal chances last week.

UNC is fresh off their bye week and will look ahead to taking on Georgia Tech, a team that gave them fits the past few seasons.

For the Tar Heels, it’s simple. You need to win out and hope the Virginia Tech Hokies get upset in one of their three remaining conference games.

Easier said than done however.

The Hokies have looked good the past two weeks, beating Miami and Pittsburgh to stay in the Coastal Division lead. Those two opponents were the toughest left for the Hokies, who now have Duke, Georgia Tech and Virginia remaining.

They will be favored in each of those games.

Let’s take a look at the updated standings despite a UNC bye week. There was some movement in both divisions:

As you can see, the Tar Heels will play before Virginia Tech on Saturday so if they do their job it will take a little pressure off. The Hokies are kicking off on the road against Duke later in the night where hopefully the Blue Devils can pull it off.

With Pitt and Miami both losing to UNC and Virginia Tech, their hopes at a Coastal Division title are pretty much done.

On the Atlantic side, it’s Clemson’s title to lose. The Tigers are 5-0 and have beaten both Louisville and Florida State giving them the edge.
