Wisconsin's Sam Dekker saying no to senior year, yes to NBA Draft
On the strength of Wisconsin's run to the National Championship game, forward Sam Dekker has announced his plans to enter the NBA Draft.
Dekker, who averaged 13.9 points and 5.5 rebounds this past season, was especially impressive during the NCAA tournament, averaging 19.2 points. His hot shooting, especially from 3-point land, came to a halt in the title game vs. Duke, where he shot 0-for-6 from distance, but did score 12 points on 6-of-15 shooting.
"These past three years have been the best, most memorable years of my life," Dekker said. "Growing up in the state and being able to wear Wisconsin across my chest has been a dream come true.
"After lots of thoughts and prayers, I've decided that it is in my best interest to enter the NBA Draft at this time. It is difficult to leave Madison and the only state I've called home, but I'm excited for the next chapter of my life."
Wisconsin now will enter the 2015-16 season without three of its top five scorers, as national player of the year Frank Kaminsky and Traevon Jackson have exhausted their eligibility.
DraftExpress.com rates Dekker as a mid-first round selection.
"I truly can't say thank you enough to my teammates, coaches, training staff and the fans, for everything they've done," Dekker said. "I am so grateful for the opportunities Coach Ryan and UW-Madison have given me. I couldn't have asked for anything more from my experience."
