Winthrop pulls away from SIU-Edwardsville 94-82

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Adam Pickett made 5 of 7 shots from 3-point range and scored 24 points to help Winthrop beat SIU-Edwardsville 94-82 on Saturday night.

The Eagles (1-1) pulled away with a 14-4 run that ended at 65-54 on Bjorn Broman's 3-pointer with 13:41 left in the game. Cameron Williams' jumper briefly cut the Cougars' deficit back to single digits before Winthrop scored and led by double digits the rest of the way.

All five Eagles starters scored in double digits. Nych Smith had 17, and Broman, Micheal Anumba and Josh Ferguson added 13 each.

David McFarland scored 20, Brandon Jackson added 13 and Tyrese Williford had 10 for the Cougars (0-2). Daniel Kinchen and Cameron Williams each chipped in with 11 points off the bench.

Winthrop was 14 of 30 from 3-point range. Broman was 4 of 8 and Ferguson hit 3 of 4.
