Williams helps San Diego pull away for 71-58 win over LMU

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Tyler Williams totaled 14 points, six rebounds and four assists and San Diego pulled away in the second half on Thursday night to beat Loyola Marymount 71-58.

Isaiah Pineiro added 13 points and sophomore Yauhen Massalski had four dunks and scored 12 to go with five rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots. Freshman Joey Calcaterra pitched in with 12 points and five assists for the Toreros (14-7, 3-3 West Coast Conference), who sank 16 of 22 foul shots while the Lions (14-6, 2-4) made 7 of 12.

Williams buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer to help the Toreros take a 31-30 lead at halftime. Williams opened the scoring in the second half with another 3-pointer and San Diego never surrendered the lead. Batemon's 3-pointer and an Eli Scott layup pulled the Lions within 61-57 with 1:20 left to play, but Calcaterra and Pineiro scored four each in an 8-0 run to seal the victory.

Batemon led LMU with 17 points. Mattias Markusson and Eli Scott added 13 points apiece with Markusson grabbing eight rebounds.
