Watch the 'One Shining Moment' video that started it all 30 years ago
Thirty years ago on March 30, the original NCAA tournament tribute "One Shining Moment" video aired after the No. 1-seeded Indiana Hoosiers defeated the No. 2-seeded Syracuse Orangemen.
That was a really fine year for CBS to debut its now-iconic video tradition after the crowning of the champion. Legendary head coach Bobby Knight led that Hoosiers team past Jim Boeheim's Syracuse squad thanks to a game-winning shot in the game's final seconds by Indiana's Keith Smart. Syracuse reached the title game by advancing past the Providence Friars, coached by a guy named Rick Pitino. And in the other Final Four game, Indiana toppled the towel-chomping Jerry Tarkanian-led UNLV Runnin' Rebels, who would break through in 1990. Familiar faces, heartbreak, intrigue and heroics. It was a good year! Now go ahead back in time:
