W. Michigan 67, Wis.-Milwaukee 55
Flenard Whitfield scored 19 points and keyed a 10-0 second-half run to boost Western Michigan to a 67-55 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Tuesday night.
Juwan Howard Jr. scored 13 and Demetrius Ward 12 for the Broncos (1-2), who outshot their hosts 43.6 percent (24 of 55) to 29.0 percent (18 of 62).
Anthony Hill had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers (3-3). Tone Boyle scored 16 points, and Tony Meier grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Broncos led 23-20 at halftime before the Panthers scored the first basket of the second half. Then Western Michigan embarked on the game-changing run, reeling off 10 consecutive points, including six in a row by Whitfield. That made it 33-22 with 16:48 left, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee never got closer than six the rest of the way.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee outrebounded Western Michigan 45-43 and had 12 assists to the Broncos' 11.
