Virginia Tech MBB: Hokies Picked 10th in ACC Preseason Poll
ACC Media Day took place on Wednesday, and with that came the conference’s preseason hoops poll
The Virginia Tech Hokies men’s basketball team is coming off of a 2015-16 campaign in which they surprised many with a 20-15 overall record, including a 10-8 record in league play.
Picked to finish 14th in a 15-team ACC last season, the Hokies’ emergence as one of the best young teams in the conference became one of the best stories in college basketball’s undisputed best conference a year ago.

With the team returning four of their top five scorers from a year ago, including their leading scorer, senior forward Zach LeDay (15.5 ppg., 7.9 rpg), the Hokies should not sneak up on as many teams as they did last season. Despite many pundits being high on the Hokies in the preseason, including Rob Dauster of NBC Sports, who listed the Hokies as a Final Four sleeper, the team was picked to finish 10th in the conference in the preseason media poll for the upcoming season.

Speaking of Zach LeDay, although he is expected to be a major piece to what should be a very good Virginia Tech team this season, coach Buzz Williams announced that LeDay sustained an injury in camp. There was not much more detail other than that, but that will certainly be a story to monitor as the season draws near, along with the health of sophomore forward Kerry Blackshear, who has a lower extremity injury and could miss the start of the season.
The Hokies open their season against Maine at Cassell Coliseum on November 11th. The game will tip-off at 9 PM.
