Utah Valley snaps skid, extends Seattle's with 88-78 win
OREM, Utah (AP) — Jake Toolson scored 26 points and sophomore Richard Harward had his first career double-double to help Utah Valley beat Seattle 88-78 on Saturday night to snap a two-game skid.
Toolson made 8 of 13 from the field and 9 of 9 from the free-throw line and Harward — who came in with 27 points and 41 rebounds in his career — finished with 12 points and 15 boards.
Benjamin Nakwaasah hit a 3-pointer to spark a 14-1 run that was capped by five straight points by Harward and gave Utah Valley (12-6, 1-2 Western Athletic Conference) the lead for good. Toolson's layup within the spurt gave the Wolverines their first lead and Harward punctuated it with a dunk that made it 74-68 with 5:41 to play. Seattle made just one of its last 13 shots and two of its last 17.
Morgan Means had 20 points while Myles Carter, Terrell Brown and Delante Jones scored 16 apiece for Seattle (12-6, 0-3). Carter added 10 rebounds and three blocks and Brown finished with four steals.
UVU committed nine of its 15 turnovers as Seattle opened a 20-point lead when Jones hit a 3-pointer with 7:11 left in the first half. Toolson was fouled as he dunked and converted the 3-point play to spark a 13-3 run that trimmed the deficit to single digits about six minutes later. The Wolverines scored 14 of the first 16 second-half points to pull within a point.
