Utah State promotes longtime assistant Duryea to head coach
Utah State has hired Tim Duryea as it new men's basketball coach.
Athletic director Scott Barnes announced the promotion for the longtime assistant coach on Monday.
The 50-year-old Duryea succeeds Stew Morrill, who retired after the season. Duryea has been an assistant with the program for 14 seasons and held the associate coach title the past seven seasons.
Barnes said in a statement, ''Tim has been groomed the past 14 years by one of the best basketball coaches in the country, and I have great confidence that he will begin putting his own fingerprints on the program beginning today.''
The Aggies advanced to the NCAA tournament six times since Duryea was hired as an assistant. They finished 18-13 this season and will return all five starters next season.
